I lived at 135-18 230th Street with my sister, Roslyn Blocher Rubenstein. My brother-in-law, Ira Rubenstein graduated from Far Rockaway ('58). The best years were growing up in Rosedale/Laurelton. I remember going to Brookfield Park, The Pizza King, the dances at Rosedale Jewish Center, the holidays walking to Laurelton Jewish Center. I'd love to hear from those of you who remember me. Taught at Riverhead HS with Alan Weinstock right out of college. My son is a third year medical student and my daughter is a freshman at Hamilton College. Although I was only 9 when we moved, Laurelton was always the best. Lived next to Arthur Mack, Howie Miller, Harvey Blumenfeld, Gary Weinstein, Joel Levine & Beatrice Brown. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up in Laurelton. Now we are old enough to appreciate what that sense of close community means, and how much it shaped who we all are today. Then off to Hobart College, Harvard Medical School, Univ of PA and Northwestern for residency and fellowship. Ronnie and I were bathroom monitors, and someone stole our pocketbooks with our collection of bus passes. My family moved to Eastchester in 1958, so I missed going to Jackson or Far Rockaway. , Woolworth's, Bert & Dave's, the Depot, Library, and so many other places and things, I'm struck by how much this place was so important to us because we spent our childhoods there. I lived in Laurelton until the 9th grade and then moved to Rockville Centre. I remember House of Change, Laurelton Movies, The Riveria Italian Restarant, The Bagel Store, The Greasy Spoon Dinner, Sherry's Bakery (I worked there.) So many good memories of my childhood. Every summer the "Center" which was located inside PS 176 on the first floor housed all of us and every week day we played ping pong, pool, kickball, basketball, etc. Many great summers took place there during the day and then in the "cement" park after the Center closed at p.m. I took my two boys (12 and 14) there in the summer of 2005 to show them the three houses I lived in, the schools I went to, and to share my memories of growing up there. I attended PS 156 and JHS 59, and I graduated from AJHS in 1962. I went to PS 156, JHS 59 and Springfield Gardens HS grad 1969. One lives in Mount Kisco NY and the other lives in Philly PA. Life revolved around school, the schoolyard, the LJC, little league and later hanging out on Merrick Road at such establishments as Carmine's Pizza.
